OUR ISO JOURNEY

The ISO (International Organization for Standardization) certification is significant; by providing confidence for the principal contractor and defining targets to achieve international operating standards.
ISO 9001:2015 [Quality Management System]
The company embarked on achieving certification in May 2016 through system design and implementation. The Standards Association of Zimbabwe issued certification in March 2017. Bitumen World was the first civil engineering company in Zimbabwe to achieve this certification.
ISO 45001:2018 [Occupational Health and Safety]
In similar fashion, the company set about attaining certification through system design and implementation in 2018 and duly achieved this in September 2019, again the first civil engineering company to achieve this in Zimbabwe. This brings benefit to both Client and Employee and enables both to enjoy mutual benefit in the pursuit of “Zero Harm”.
ISO 14001:2015 [Environmental Management]
This is the latest endeavor by Bitumen World with respect to ISO certification. Bitumen World has attained Environmental Management Certification, taking special cognisance that responsible management is required to best protect the environment in an industry whose activities could be potentially harmful.

As part of International Standards Organization’s continuous improvement, it developed a high level structure in the most dominant ISO management system being ISO9001,ISO14001 AND ISO45001. The HIGH LEVEL STRUCTURE (similarity on most clause requirements) makes it easy for the integration of the management system a route which bitumen World (Pvt) Ltd is currently undertaking after achieving its milestones of certified to three management systems being
ISO9001:2015,ISO14001:2015 and ISO45001:2018 respectively. Bitumen World (Pvt) Ltd has noted huge advantages for integrating its management systems to mention but a few;
- Integrated management system will increase our efficiency and effectiveness.
- There is cost reduction while minimising the disruption caused by several external audits.
- Compliance obligation to legal and other requirements can now be done once ie. OHS hygiene surveys and environmental surveys.
- It also shows commitment to increased performance, employee and customer satisfaction and continuous improvement.
The ISO Executive committee members are currently working on integrating the Management systems and the target is by end of October 2021, for the transition from individual ISO management system.
